Ropers Majeski Kohn & Bentley Welcomes Silicon Valley Employment Law Veteran Lisa Aguiar as a Partner
Law firm Ropers Majeski Kohn & Bentley has added Lisa Aguiar, previously Hoge Fenton's Employment Group Chair, as a partner in its San Jose office.
SAN JOSE, CA, March 03, 2010 /Law and Legal PR News/ -- Ropers Majeski Kohn & Bentley (RMKB), a multi-service law firm offering litigation and transactional services nationally and internationally, has added seasoned employment law attorney Lisa Aguiar as a partner in its San Jose office. Formerly chair of the Employment Group at Hoge Fenton Jones & Appel in San Jose, Aguiar brings 20 years of experience advising Silicon Valley companies through myriad employment issues.
"Lisa's leadership, experience and knowledge of the relevant issues and regulations surrounding employment and labor relations made her an obvious and natural addition to our employment practice," said Rick Wilson, firmwide managing partner. "Widely respected in the industry, Lisa will be an invaluable legal resource to our wide range of corporate clients, our San Jose office and to the employment law practice firmwide. We are thrilled to have her as part of our team."
"I feel very fortunate to be afforded the opportunity to join such a robust and dynamic practice group and firm. RMKB's employment practice group has the talent and resources to serve its corporate clients in every facet of human resources counseling and employment litigation - a perfect compliment to my practice," said Aguiar.
Aguiar counsels companies and management on day-to-day employment issues, such as planning and implementing layoffs and other terminations, and handling discrimination and other harassment issues. She represents clients in all phases of the litigation process and has particular expertise in alternative dispute resolution, including arbitration, mediation, early neutral evaluation and early settlement conferences.
Aguiar has defended employers in claims of age, national origin and pregnancy discrimination, unfair competition, unfair business practices, and denial of overtime pay and bonuses. A frequent speaker to business groups, she has performed corporate in-house training on such topics as sexual harassment, diversity issues and best practices in hiring, and has presented seminars on deciphering leave requirements and effective job interviewing.
Aguiar received her J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1988 and a B.S. and B.A. from Santa Clara University in 1985.
